Gear Up - Happy Birthday - Color Dare #516 - Triple Play

This is my Design Team card for ColorMyHeart Color Dare #516 "3-Play" using the Try Stampin' on Tuesdays Sketch Challenge #574, rotated to landscape, and combined with stencil technique.  My first thought was a masculine card with gears and sprockets but the colors were telling me no-no.  However, gear in slang means something stylish... so I went with stylish.

This was a fun card to create, even with the unusural combination of colors with my sprocket dies.  Started with a light grey (Linen) cardstock, sponged Linen ink on stencil called "mini cell theory" and then bordered it with Sangria cardstock.

Now I'm all geared up. Decided the center largest sprocket should be in Sangria and the smaller ones in blue (Carolina) and pink (Flamingo). Made several cuts of the different sprockets, amused myself with several layouts, had trouble fitting it in portrait so I simply rotated the sketch to landscape and was able to get something similar to the sketch. Adhered large sprocket direct to my stencil background and used 3D thin tape for the smaller sprockets.

I actually pulled out my Cricut for the "Gear Up" sentiment I made in Design Space and adhered to the center of the large sprocket and stamped "Happy Birthday" sentiment.

Owl Miss You - DTC #121 Punch It Out

This is my Design Team card for Double Trouble #121 "Punch It Out" which requires using at least one die cut. Twisted Sister's optional twist is to "include wood / woodgrain in your project... so what a great background for this owl die and also meet the requirement of Use Your Stuff "Wood / Woodgrain".

When I saw the Try Stampin' on Tuesdays Sketch Challenge #573 it fit my need for clean and simple and the owl die was perfect to create a shaker card.  The owl die was cut using the woodgrain design paper and backed the owl with black cardstock. Next layer was a pretty patterned paper which gave an illusion of sky and hills scenery in the background. Added the star sprinkles and adhered to the card base.  Pretty, simple and met all the requirements.

Thing 1:  says, "National Punch Day (Sept 20) is about one of three things. Can you guess which two we are celebrating? 1. A sweet drink that is ladled from a punch bowl, 2. The kind of punch that you dole out with your fists, or 3. a crafting tool?"  Thing 1 is giving a second chance if you have included comments in our Challenge post or in your post next to link what drink you took to your scrapping space.

MINE is Coffee with Cinnamon Bun Creamer until the Pumpkin Spice Creamer is available in the store.  But I keep it furthest from my crafting work space.

However, I have to share my scrap space with Cleo... a heavy crystal glass of water filled to the brim and right next to my work space.  She is so sure footed and maneuvers around my desk with no problem knocking things over (quite a lady). In the two years this has been placed here the only time it was spilled was my clumsy hand hit the glass and it spilled, but luckily away from my project I was working on.  I keep a plastic bottle of water on my desk near my coffee for a refill.

Friendship Makes Life Colorful - Color Challenge #514 - Inspirational Photo

This is my Design Team card for ColorMyHeart Color Dare #514 "Inspiration Photo".  Well, here's another die that was in my stash and never used.  I did experiment with them so had many cuts that were never put onto a card.  So, stash within stash for this card.  Even putting it together this time seemed impossible... beautiful die for scrapbook pages; but not sure a card.

The leaves were my reason to select this particular die.  Since I had previous cuts from a retired Fall patterned paper it seemed perfect as it included the many leaf colors in the yellow/ orange/ red shades in the Inspiration Photo.  Now my challenge of putting a card together for the second time... I've got to make it work.

On a 4 x 5.25 Sundance cardstock I cut 4 of the full cut of the leaf. Cut another panel slightly bigger using Sapphire cardstock, adhered the Sundance cut to the Sapphire cut with 3D foam tape and then adhered a couple of the design leaf cuts inside the cut.

Of course I had so many other beautiful cuts, positive and negative, and just needed to use them all... they will not be put them back into my stash.  Four of the design leaves were layered and some of the lacier placed behind the layered.  Cut one of the last design leaf and used for center of flower along with a black gem and the final cuts were added on the corner of the inside.

I'll usually show my cards to my husband for his comment and he said "Looks like a lot of mustard".  He's usually a little more complimentary and it made me sad and question my card... should I have used the darker side of Sundance? Should I have used different colors?  I decided to sleep on it and take another look in the morning. Than thought, what does my husband know.

So I added my sentiment and this seemed like the perfect sentiment with so many colors in my card "Friendship Makes Life Colorful" and stamped directly on card in Sapphire Ink.  Showed my card to my husband a second time "Oh, that looks good, the sentiment broke up all the mustard"... so I'll take that as a compliment and enter my card.

Hello - Color Dare 512 "Fancy Five"

Here is my Design Team Card for ColorMyHeart Color Dare #512 "Fancy Five" using the Try Stampin' on Tuesday Sketch Challenge #571 with optional twist of CAS.  My three color choice is Sundance, Lagoon and Glacier.

I have a difficult time with CAS because I like the extra layering but it's an optional twist for the TSOT sketch.  Started with drawing pencil lines on a 4 x 5 1/4 white cardstock according to the sketch, placed the floral stencil angular on the center panel and color blended the flowers in Glacier and Lagoon, leaves in Flaxen (closest match to Sundance) and then fussy cut along the lines of the panel and leaves extended over the line.  Cut another panel same size using Lagoon cardstock and adhered the floral panel with thin foam tape.

Here comes my extra layering before placing on the card base... one more layer using Sundance cardstock extended with a 16th inch border.  The Lagoon layer was adhered to the Sundance layer and then adhered to the white card base. To complete I added a die sentiment "Hello" using a layer of Sundance and Lagooon. I feel I came very close to a CAS card, what do you think does it pass for CAS?
