It's a Party

Welcome to this week's Color My Heart Color Dare Challenge #182Join us in this week’s challenge using the colors in photo (White Daisy, Lagoon, Smoothie and Hollyhock.)  You have until Thursday, March 3, 2016 to create and link up your project. Great color combination for Easter cards...look forward to seeing your inspirations for this color challenge.  The Color Challenge was combined with the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #148, and the theme from Heart 2 Heart Challenge "Party Animals.

Please click on any of the highlighted challenges to see the many inspirations and creative designs from each of the Design Team members and the many submissions to these challenges.  Some of the these challenges may still be open so hop on by and join us for some fun challenges.

The colors hollered "Easter" so I had just purchased a digi of a bunny holding balloons from Craftin Desert Divas and it fit the need for the colors and the theme "Party Animals"...now all I needed to do was apply it to the sketch.

Cut the background pieces first, then printed, colored and fussy-cut the image.  Using Paper Fundamentals, design paper and cardstock several images were cut from Cricut Design Space to make up the border between the two backgrounds, and the two strips behind the focal point, and the grass.

Used an egg-shape panel behind my image, raised with Foam and placed the bunny on top adding the grass. Adhered the strip of baskets and strip of presents with 3D foam tape. Added egg embellishments in upper right-hand corner and then stamped and fussy-cut the Sentiment and placed in the left-hand corner.

Finished up with Liquid Glass on the eggs in the baskets and corner, bows and ribbons, bunny's nose and bow, and grass.  Added Wink of Stella "clear" to baskets, presents and bunny.  Click on picture to see a larger image.

Valentine Girl

This card was created using The Outlawz Challenge February Progressive Freebie using a vintage digital "Valentine Girl" created by one of Outlawz long-time members, Teresa Arsenault (Tickell Expressions)

Printed two images of Valentine Girl  on design paper, and two images on white cardstock. Fussy-cut the design paper images, one with the ruffle and fussy-cut the full dress for another layer on top. Fussy-cut the heart and hands only from one of the printed cardstock images, and layered on top of dress.  The other printed cardstock image was colored with ShinHan alcohol-based ink, fussy-cut and then adhered the dress/heart layers to the full image.  Wink of Stella was used on the ruffle, shoes and heart

The background was made using two design papers from "Heartstrings"...one design for the scalloped frame with another for the background of the frame.  A doily heart was cut in Cricut Design Space using a complementary design paper from the same paperpak and placed as a panel behind Valentine Girl.  Then cut a small heart with a die, and used the negative of hearts cut from glitter from my stash and fussy-cut aound the sides of hearts.  More puffie hearts were added to card in bottom corner.

A Little Birdie Told Me

This card was made for Heart 2 Heart Challenge "Favorite Paper Pak." and what a difficult decision this was, however, for today's choice "Penelope."

Story:  My children would ask me who their favorite was...my response "You're my favorite daughter" (I only have one daughter); however, I had two sons so my response would be "You're my favorite youngest son" and "You're my favorite oldest son".  And this carries on for my grandchildren too...luckily we don't have a big family.  When my children would draw pictures they would ask which was my favorite...again my response would be "I don't have a favorite, they are all beautiful drawings."  Still today my adult children try to trick me into a favorite, and they don't get any different response. I love them all, and they are my favorites.

I couldn't even decide on a particular pattern from "Penelope" Paper Pak so I decided to cut 1/2" strips of each paper, one from each side and also used the zip strips, and adhered them to a 12 x 12 white daisy cardstock.  Cut the background panel 4 3/4 x 6 3/4 from my decorated cardstock, and then die-cut the frames using Pretty Posh stitched and scalloped rectangular stackables.  I made sure that I followed the same pattern for each frame.  Frames were adhered with 3D Regular and Thin Foam Tape.

This is a closer view of the focal point.  Vellum was used in the center frame to make it softer and appear as you were looking through a window.  The sentiment was stamped on the vellum. Stamped a couple of birdiess on design paper, fussy-cut and adhered to the widow frames. Stamped a couple sets of balloons with ink, fussy-cut and set behind Birdie as he was holding behind his back, and added liquid glass for shine and dimension.

Just For You

Welcome to this week's Color My Heart Color Dare Challenge #181Join us in this week’s challenge using the colors in photo (Colonial White, Honey, Pear and Cranberry.)  You have until Thursday, February 25, 2016 to create and link up your project. Looking forward to seeing your inspirations for this color challenge.

The Color Challenge was combined with the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #147, and the sketch was a bunch of rectangles and squares...how was I going to make this card different than a variety of design papers.

I started by creating the three flowers in the sketch, and another larger flower for the focal point and placed on card.  Now what...instead of using design papers I chose to use stamps, rub-ons and complements to create many of the rectangular and square sections.  Used the wire fencing stamp directly on the cardstock for the top and bottom square and rectangle sections...used the scalloped complement to break for the next two rectangle sections on the top using the leaves as the divide between the two rectangles...and then used Rub-On Flairs on both sides of the focal point.  Mission accomplished.

The flowers were stamped with honey and cranberry, fussy-cut and adhered with 3D Thin Foam Tape.  Added a generic sentiment so that the card could be used for a number of occasions.

For the inside of the card I used some more of the rub-ons in the corners and left open for a message and stamping of sentiment.

Challenge #149  - Theme:  Cute + A Sentiment
February 18 - March 3, 2016
Click Bugaboo Digi Stamps Image to see the "Cute Owl" Digi Used

I've had this wooden frame I purchased to do a wall hanging for a Barbie Doll House, but never used and it's been sitting in my scrap room for quite some time.  I chose Bugaloo's Cute Owl as my image, and since my daughter's scrap room is full of owls, I decided to make a little whimsical wall hanging.

Lisa's room is turquoise, so I painted the wood frame with turquoise acrylic paint, and used one of the stamps from "Ink Blot Flair" and stamped around the frame with Lagoon and Glacier inks.  The image was colored with a variety of ShinHan alcohol based pens, masked the image, applied water coloring for the background and framed with a stitched square panel to adhere to the wood frame. Several flowers were cut in different sizes, colored, layered and adhered to the image with a small cascade of flowers down on the frame and added a lady bug.

Stamped a sentiment on turquoise cardstock in black ink, fussy-cut and adhered to frame and added a ladybug on each side.

Do I love Liquid Glass...that I do and you will see it in many of my creations...just adds that bit of dimension and shine.  Liquid Glass is used on the glitter tape center of each flower, ladybugs, owl's nose and feet.

My daughter introduced me to another challenge LESSology, and in your project you have to use a recycled object and include a tassel. Viewing some of the entrants very unique and creative recycled items used I'm not sure this fits into the challenge; but I thought I would try it anyway.

 photo Challenge-55-Pretty-Tassels-design-team-projects_zpsomxtzwyk.jpg

I think of  all the tassels over the years I have discarded, so my only alternative was to make a tassle. Now I had to come up with a recycled item...my neighbor and I were sharing thoughts of things we throw in the waste can, and there it was right in front of me.  I had emptied a tape roll from my Scotch Tape Glider and had just discarded into my scrap room wastebasket...so I recovered it and used it in my project.  I chose four different colors of twine to match the colors in the flowers and wrapped them through the holes and around, cut a tassle at the bottom, and left two of the strings to insert in the Frame.

Love You

This card was made for the Heart 2 Heart a joint challenge to Color Dare, and I wanted  a sketch challenge to combine with them. In the many blogs I visit, it's been noted that MoJo Monday Card Sketch Challenge is popular and frequently used...so this is my first time, and probably not my last, using MoJo's sketch #435.

The Heart 2 Heart themed challenge is “Share the Love” which you can interpret to mean something with hearts and love messages or something with the February Constant Campaign “Share the Love” stamp set or something else that reminds you of a “Share the Love” theme.

The Sketch was CAS...all that was needed to complete my card was to determine what patterns would be used, to include the colors of the Color Dare Challenge, and borrowed my daughter's stamp set "Share the Love" for the Heart 2 Heart challenge which had the image and sentiment. Heart embellishments were die-cut using dark red glitter paper, backed with black cardstock, fussy-cut and adhered with 3D Regular and Thin Foam Tape.  The Arrow was stamped, fussy-cut and glued to heart.

Final step: Add the liquid glass to my card. Double Click on the Image to get a larger picture of the detail of the liquid glass which was placed on the Black Arrow/Heart and on the typewriter...the keys, the space bar and the return handle.

This card will be submitted to Heart 2 Heart for their first theme in February "...embraces the number 2 (Feburary is the 2nd month of the year!- get it?) Use the number 2 or "TWO" or the inspirations of two in your project!"

My Theme 2 includes: A February 23rd Birthday Card for my Sister, 2 Flowers on the Belly Band and 2 Flowers on the Inside, and card is made of 2 pieces.

While in Facebook I came across a card by Chana Malkah Harris which was called a Napkin Fold card and I went to YouTube and found an excellent YouTube video by Dawn Griffith.  This tutorial was different from Chana's card but I was happy with the tutorial and saw so many possibilities.  I saw this card being used for the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #146, somewhat out of the box, but yet bring out some of my creativity.  I chose to make this a square card.

This is showing the card opened, with the belly band sitting to the left of the card.  The tutorial gives all the measurements and how to's, and all you need is your selection of paper, embellishments and your creativity. The flowers were cut from Cricut Design Space, edges rolled, petals layered, glitter circle cut, adhered finished flowers to card, added liquid glass to centers, and added Wink of Stella.  The inside white panel was sprayed with Pearl Glitter Mist to add a fine glimmer.

This photo is the Belly Band that is wrapped around the card, and when recipient pulls the band off the card will start to open.
