You Make Me Happy When Skies Are Grey - Double Trouble Challenge #64

This is my DT card for the Double Trouble Challenge #64 "Let's Brighten the Day" and our partnering with ColorMyHeart Color Dare #407 "Color Palette" and using the fun sketch at  Try Stamping on Tuesday #469 along with their twist "make your background".

First started with TSOT's sketch (upside-down), stamped and masked several umbrellas on linen cardstock, using linen ink, to mimic the curve of the sketch.  My choice of two colors were pansy for the hearts and sea glass for the flowers on the outside of the umbrellas and added some waterdrops using linen ink.  Using the linen ink didn't show up the different sections of the umbrellas very well so I used a black multi liner pen and drew in the black lines. Also did a vellum strip with a heat embossed sentiment and clouds... this did not impress me at all with my umbrellas.

I was tired, it was late, my mind was blank, I began doubting whether I could pull this all together... so off to bed.

Our Little Crop Group gets together every Sunday with a Zoom Crop.  I shared my dilemma with our group that morning and Melanie (also a Design Team Member at Color Dare) suggested "turn my card right-side up, that shows the sketch better"; and she didn't stop there "wouldn't it be nice if you pop up some flowers in the umbrellas"  OMG why didn't I think of that.

I still wanted to keep the background with no other dimension... so I decided to change some of the waterdrops into flowers adding more flowers falling into the open umbrellas and colored them with Copic sketch pens in sea glass.  The balance of the waterdrops were colored in pansy.

The sentiment was added in the right-hand corner of the card.  I tried the wide strip of vellum again without a sentiment; but then decided just to do a thinner strip on linen cardstock.  Stamped a row of small clouds, layered with sea glass cardstock and adhered to the background with 3D thin foam tape.

Of course with each of these steps it was reviewed with the Our Little Group and there was still something missing.  The center of the flowers were left white... suggestions were tiny gems or Nuvo drops... did two samples, one with black center and another with a white center... voted black.  My dilemma was resolved thanks to Our Little Crop Group and I was pleased with the end result.

Note: This Double Trouble Challenge is having an earlier start date of Friday, August 14th to meet the same dates as our partner and will be closing earlier on Thursday, August 27th.

Love to hear how your card evolved, turned out lovely, of course those are two of my favorite colors! Your sentiment ties it all together.😊

It’s funny how some cards come together so easily an others take so much time and effort. The idea of using umbrellas to create the curve in the sketch is fabulous and so unique. Love the colour scheme as well. Very successful with a beautiful card!
