Happy Bird Day - Double Trouble Challenge #59 3-2-1 Recipe

Here is my DT card for Double Trouble Challenge #59 "3-2-1 Recipe". Double Trouble usually has a pretty simple recipe (This recipe had 3-Colors, 2 Embellishments and 1 seasoned stamp over a year old).  And you can enhance or make a bigger recipe by using additional ingredients. You can stop here and submit your entry or you can use Twisted Sister's Optional Twist and get additional chances at Double Trouble's random draw. I wanted to take that challenge.

But then when I wanted to challenge myself to Twisted Sister's optional twist using a sketch from Retro Rubber Challenge #137 and using a triangle or quadrilateral shapes...wow and pow. I had the perfect background die that had triangles and every quad shape there is. Now, the hard part is to fit the busy background in the sketch.

Soooo, off to my daughters blog to see how she would treat a busy background.  She frequently makes busy look simple.  So this is my attempt at a Lisa card and I think I captured a little of her style... what do you think?  Don't answer that.

For my birdhouse I used a woodgrain design paper along with another design paper for the roof.  The cut of the roof looked like a triangle and the walls of the home were my quads. Not that I really had to worry about Twisted Sister's optional twist to include at least one triangle or quad because the background die had them all.

The woodgrain design paper looked like a Birch tree.  Since the sketch called for a panel down the side, I cut another background die with the same woodgrain and pieced them to look like it was a Birch tree trunk outside my glass window and used sequins for the leaves falling off the tree.  And of course the sentiment was stamped on the woodgrain design paper, curved the sides and adhered with 3D thin foam tape to appear as a birdhouse post.
I knew I was going to use the sentiment "Happy Bird-Day" so went through all my stamps to find the right bird.

Wow! What a lot of fun dynamics to your card, Suzanne! I love how the birdhouse is what gives the angle in that part of the sketch! The shaker element behind all of it is fabulous too. You pulled it all together great!:)

I love that background die - so intricate and bold in black! I can see Lisa's inspiration in your design - this is unusual for you but I really like the change. Love the colours as well.

Suzanne - I just couldn't get past the triangle element being an actual triangle. LOVE your interpretation as a birdhouse! The background of lots of angles for a shaker card puts your design over the top!!! A great inspiration card for sure! -Donna

Fabulous card, Sue! To me, the background looks like a huge tree branch and lots of smaller branches. Lots of interest and texture.
