Spongebob - Hip to Be Square

Oh my...I had such a great time creating this card for Heart2Heart Challenge "Hip To Be Square"...went to sleep thinking of squares and woke up thinking of squares.

Found some clipart on SpongeBob Square Pants with a microphone, printed, fussy-cut on my new Brother Scan and Cut, colored, embossed and layered with a second cut. The Music Notes were also clipart that was printed and then cut.

In Cricut Design Space I created my Sentiment through Text, ungrouped, stacked the letters, attached, welded and then cut in white daisy cardstock and layered with a second cut.

HOW SQUARE CAN WE GET...my squares are represented by

Everything is Better with a Friend - Color Dare #208

Color My Heart Color Dare Challenge #208: Join us in this week’s challenge combining Pixie, Thistle, Juniper, Lagoon and White Daisy (all and only)...looking forward to seeing your inspirations for this color challenge. We encourage you to use CTMH products; however you may use any products to participate using closest to colors...and still join in the fun. You have until Thursday, September 1st to enter your project.

Combined this card with the theme in Heart2Heart "For the Girls" using Creative With Stamps "Geometric" as my Background.

"For the Girls" was the easy part selecting the stamp; but what was I going to do to get the "geometric" in the card...well Paper Fundamentals came through with this.  Did I just make a retro card?

Guess what I got?  Brothers Scan and Cut...I love it.  I did a lot of fussy-cutting in the past and in the future you will see more and more from me with my new machine...this cuts my time into seconds, instead of minutes.   Still love my Cricut, but this is excellent for fussy-cutting the many stamps I use.

Mary Ellen's Artwork

This past summer when I went back East, I visited with my sister in the Nursing Home, and this is some of the artwork she made while in their workshops....I was impressed and told her I would put them on my Blog.

While there we also worked on a couple of Christmas Cards which I'm waiting for some pictures of them so I can post them as well.

Autumn Wishes - AHSC #174

My card this week as Design Team Member for Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #174 combined with the Watercooler Wednesday Color Challenge #WWC81.  Please check out the other Design inspirations, and join us at AHSC...you have until Sunday, August 28th to enter your project, and hop on by the Watercooler to see future challenges.

My neighbor told me about this challenge and when I saw the colors I thought of the beautiful Fall leaves back in New York.  So I pulled out the leaf stamp set and started on my card.  Stamped a variety of images on white cardstock, with ink colors closest to this challenge and adhered to a stitched die-cut frame at different heights using 3D Foam Tape.

Used some of the left-over images for the inside of the card, leaving an area for a note or sentiment.

Sunflowers - Color Dare #207

Color My Heart Color Dare Challenge #207: Join us in this week’s challenge combining Canary, Saffron, White Daisy and Gold (all and only)...looking forward to seeing your inspirations for this color challenge. We encourage you to use CTMH products; however you may use any products to participate using closest to colors...and still join in the fun. You have until Thursday, August 25 to enter your project.

My Color Challenge was combined with the MoJo Monday Sketch Challenge #461 with no sentiment, a future any occasion card. Hop on by these challenges to see the DT's inspiration and many entrant projects.

Made a personalized background using the "Sunflower" embossment folder on wax paper, ironed wax-paper image on white cardstock and then sponged saffron and canary inks on image.

Focal Point is a die-cut doily from Cricut Design Space with a small floral bouquet of sunflowers adding "clear" Wink of Stella for a little glitter and gems in the center of each flower.  Decorated the inside of the card with more flowers and a  doily.

EXCELLENT TUTORIAL:  I had done a previous card with this technique, but since there were questions on the Facebook I took time to look through You Tube and found a very nice tutorial Crafting My Style with Sue Wilson - Embossed Wax Paper Resist Technique for Creative Expressions CLICK HERE. I did not use glossy paper and I didn't re-emboss, but it does make a more stunning card. I'll try that next time because I like this technique.

Let's Hang Out - AHSC #173

My card this week as Design Team Member for Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #173. Please check out the other Design inspirations, and join us at AHSC...you have until Sunday, August 21st to enter your project.

Had no idea what I wanted to do with this sketch, banners are not my favorite thing except for sentiments.  Again this week, I wanted to do something different and go out of the box; but still keep some resemblance to the sketch. Sooo many ideas were formed in my head but just didn't materialize...so went back to my drawing board and came up with a Halloween theme.

No fussy-cutting on this card; however a lot of Cricut cuts...sizes modified and double layered using black cardstock and some design paper.  Foam back on background paper for dimension and all other cuts were either glued or adhered using 3D Foam tape.

Used the additional die-cuts on the inside with a triangular strip of design paper along the corner and the right-hand side.

Comfort Pillows for Physically Challenged

My daughter-in-law has worked many years as a Teacher's Aide for the Mentally and Physically Challenged children, one-on-one and in a class setting.  Last year she worked in a class setting and asked if I could make some rice pillows, known as Therapy Lap Pads used for people with ADD/ADHD, Sensory Processing Disorder, Alzheimer's Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Autism, Anxiety Disorders and Insomnia. These rice pillows are placed on their laps and they find comfort in these.

Had no problem finding materials, just needed to make the first experimental pillow to see how I would put them together.  First made an insert to contain the rice, but when rice was put in the sack it would fall to the end.  Removing the rice, I stitched the decorative pillow at one of the ends, then stitched a line approximately every 3 1/2", leaving an area open on each stitch line so I could easily pour in the rice with a funnel, one section at a time, and then stitched the balance of the stitch line.

Pulled the design pillow over the rice filled pillow and stitched them together.

Happy Is As Happy Does - Happy Birthday

Color My Heart Color Dare Challenge #206: Join us in this week’s challenge combining Flaxen, Peacock, Poppy, Ruby, Saffron and Whisper (all and only)...these are the colors in the Florence PaperPak.  Looking forward to seeing your inspirations for this color challenge. We encourage you to use CTMH products; however you may use any products to participate using closest to colors...and still join in the fun. You have until Thursday, August 18 to enter your project.

My Color Challenge was combined with the Heart2Heart Challenge "Copy This".  Hop on by these challenges to see the DT's inspiration and many entrant projects.

"COPY THIS" Simply flip through your new Annual Inspirations (like you haven't done that a million times already!) and find some artwork you especially love. Then COPY THAT artwork! Of course you can put your own spin on the projects and tweak them any way you'd like.  My Selection was on Page 46 of the Annual Inspirations...however instead of stamp set I used gear die-cuts in my design.

Love the Florence Paper Pack...so this was an easy decision for my color challenge...I could have chosen the design paper which included all the colors; but decided to use the other papers instead for a more masculine card.

However, three changes and photos later, finally finished (all and only) colors on my card. My first mistake was using White Daisy for the first layer of the gears and my sentiment...only to find when I went to write my blog White Daisy was not one of the colors...so Whisper was added as a layer on the card panel, changed the Sentiment with one of the other design papers and colored the daisy white gear layers with a grey ShinHan alcohol-based pen.  2nd mistake, didn't have poppy on the card, so cut another gear and layered over the ruby gear at the corner of the sentiment.  3rd mistake, didn't have flaxen on my card...so another gear was cut and put next to the poppy gear.  So...three sets of Photos later...this was the final answer (I mean card).

Close up of gears showing dimension and colors.  Warning: If you don't use the floral sheet, make sure you have (all and only) colors on  your card...don't make the same mistakes I did.
Added a few more gears in design papers on the inside of the card and left room for a personal note.

One of a Kind - AHSC #172

My card this week as Design Team Member for Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #172.  Please check out the other Design inspirations, and join us at AHSC...you have until Sunday, August 14th to enter your project.

Heart2Heart and Between The Folds #24A Challenges were both featuring the CTMH "Florence" Paper Pack, so my choice was to use the design papers for this Sketch.  Hop on by both of these challenges for their DT inspirations and other entrants.

The sketch reminded me of either a ship or a bird, so I thought I would look for a bird in flight in Cricut Design Space and selected a Bird in "Florals Embellished" Cartridge.  Had some difficulty trying to think of how I could make this look like the sketch...

For the left-hand side of the card the zip strips from the design paper were cut similar to the sketch and extended the zip strips to the other side of the card.  The bird was placed using its head to represent the shape on the right-hand side of the sketch, and the rectangle piece was the wing of the bird.  Hope you can see the sketch in my creation...I said it was out-of-the-box, but it worked for me.

This photo is a close-up of the all the different design papers used for the die-cut...which really created a great whimsical image.  And even the sentiment was a part of one of the zip strips from the paper pack. Amazingly, the cut of the red design paper even put the white dot in the eye for me, couldn't have done that if I had tried.

Hello

Color My Heart Color Dare Challenge #205: Join us in this week’s challenge combining Juniper, Thistle, Eggplant, Crystal Blue and White Daisy (all and only) ... Looking forward to seeing your inspirations for this color challenge. We encourage you to use CTMH products; however you may use any products to participate using closest to colors...and still join in the fun. You have until Thursday, August 11 to enter your project.

This challenge was combined with using the Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge #459.

Hop on over to Color Dare and MoJo Monday and see all the great inspirations from the Design Teams, along with the many participants.

This week my neighbor and I attended the National Coloring Book Day at Scraps of Love in Pioria, AZ and met Jean Chaney, who shared talent with us in different coloring medias... and for one of the water coloring techniques introduced only required a purchase of a water pen... and I was on my way.

After stamping and masking several flowers on white cardstock for my focal point, and using the CTMH inks in the challenge, I nervously put the water pen in hand and started coloring the flowers.  It felt comfortable using the water pen because there was better control of the amount of water used on the images.  There was no warping of the cardstock...plus I didn't even use special water coloring card stock.

The rest of the card was pretty easy to put together, just needed to select a pretty combination of design papers.  The die-cut sentiment was added to the tag, and a butterfly stamped on design paper, fussy-cut, adhered to tag with 3D thin foam tape, and rhinestones added to the body of the butterfly.

Photos above are a closer view of the butterfly and decorated the inside of the card with the same flowers and butterfly in the bottom corner.
